So it’s that time of the year again: May is rolling around and, to distract myself from another birthday, I’m signing up for Me Made May.
Joking aside, Me Made May has been a big part of my sewing year for some time now. The first time I signed up, I had nothing like enough garments to wear something me made every day. I pledged to wear something twice a week and was so pleased when I managed it. Each year, it has given me a bit of clarity over what’s missing from my wardrobe and loads of inspiration from others.
If you’ve not come across the challenge, read Zoe’s blog post here.
This year, I’m structuring my challenge a little differently. I’ve always known that, when I’m stressed for any reason, I have a tendency to indulge in retail therapy. These days, that manifests as way too many parcel deliveries and pdfs. So I need to take a step back and focus on what I already have. Which actually feels to be very much in the spirit of the challenge.
So, this is my pledge:
‘I, Becca of Red W Sews, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May 2019. I endeavour to wear a me Made item every day of the month and, for the whole month, to refrain from buying new patterns and fabric for myself in the interest of both working through some of my stash and taking time to think about what I REALLY need rather than succumbing to the FOMO (!) during May 2019.’
As it is my birthday at the start of the month, I optimistically exclude any purchases made with birthday vouchers from this pledge (because I’m only human and because I probably won’t get any anyway!)
I’m hoping this will give me a breather to focus on the ever expanding wish list of projects I’d like to be sewing and fabric I’d like to be using. It might also make my house a little neater as I wrestle the fabric stash back into shape!
So, are you signing up? What would be challenging for you?
