Flights of fancy

Hi there!

My latest Minerva Crafts Blogger Network post goes live today and I’ve started early on my spring sewing.  I made the Sew Over It Florence dress, maxi length, out of this tropical floral rayon fabric with tiny little hummingbirds all over it.

It’s bright, but I love it (husband is less keen; in fact, he says it makes his eyes hurt! Guess this is not one for wearing out with him, then!)

I’m particularly in love with the little bird buttons which I got from Textile Garden (finally, an excuse to shop their gorgeous site!) They match perfectly with the little birds in the print.

I cut a straight size 10, based on my bust, and added 1″ to the length of the bodice, which worked well for me; the bodice still has that slight blousiness which I like and sits where I like on my waist.

As well as being a Minerva Make, this is the first of my #2018MakeNine makes! 1 down, another cut out; it’s going well!

Pattern Sew Over It “Florence” dress

Fabric Tropical print rayon from Minerva Crafts

My measurements

Bust: 35″

Waist: 30″

Hips: 41″

Size cut 10

Adjustments made Lengthened the bodice by 1″

Future adjustments?

I’d be tempted to put in seam pockets in; I think the skirt is full enough to hide them and it’s a little annoying not having anywhere to hide my phone!

Make again?

Possibly; I like the dress but I don’t know how much wear I’ll get with my lifestyle.  I don’t know whether I just need to make myself wear it some and see how I get on, but it is a lovely dress

The fabric was provided to me free of charge for my review; all other supplies and thoughts are my own

  1. Great job Becca, love the fabric, the colours really suit you, but I’m wondering if it would look better shortened or sleeveless, or both. IMHO it just looks a bit much for a long sleeved maxi. As a sleeveless maxi with a cardi it would be perfect for spring ☀️
