May’s a bit of a funny month for me. On a personal level, it’s tough; whilst it includes my birthday, it also includes the anniversary of the death of a family member which never seems to get any easier.
However, on a sewing level, it’s all about Me Made May. Which I love!
If you haven’t come across it before, Me Made May is a challenge created by Zoe of “So, Zo….” blog and it encourages you to make a personal pledge which will encourage you to make the most of your me made wardrobe.
I think this is my fourth(?) year of signing up and it’s always a milestone for me of how far I’ve come with my sewing. The first time I signed up, I pledged three garments a week. And it was a struggle! But what it did was to make me very aware of what type of garments I was reaching for in a morning and hence where my sewing should be focussed. ie away from the pretty pretty dresses and into the more usable separates.
Last year marked another change; moving teams at work took me from business casual 4 days a week to dress down all the time. Consequently it was about finding patterns that made me feel ready for the office without being either too dress down for me or too dressed up for everyone else! I think this is still a journey I’m on. I also pledged to make jeans last year….
Anyway, this year I pledged to wear me made every day (which is no big change) but also to try and wear a dress once a week because I feel I’d like to get away from wearing jeans the whole time and find a way to get comfortable in dresses again. I will as ever be attempting to document this on Instagram (cue lots more selfies in the loos at work; sorry in advance!) and probably in round up form here.
Will you be joining in?

I am trying to re work a sweater that I knit that went very wrong so my challenge is all centred around one garment! Enjoy wearing more dresses, I made that hurdle a while back and dressing for work became a breeze.Jo x

I’m impressed, knitting is well outside my skill set! It’s tricky: I work on an otherwise all Male team that dress down full time so it’s striking that balance that doesn’t make me look overdone without my ALWAYS wearing jeans! Think I maybe need to research different dress patterns. I have high hopes of my Bibi dress though!

I’m just getting back into sewing and not heard of this before, sounds interesting. Do you have to sign up anywhere or just challenge yourself?
