Second time’s a charm!

Last summer, I gleefully jumped upon the Zadie jumpsuit bandwagon. I saw so many gorgeous versions online, and could totally see how it would fit into my wardrobe and my lifestyle.

I printed and adjusted the pattern, I sourced some beautiful minty green chambray, I sewed them up, put them on……. and realised that fabric choice is everything. My daughter told me they looked like scrubs and she had a point. Such a point that, no matter how I tried, all I saw was scrubs.

I tried to remedy the situation using a dye pod. 3, actually. At which point it became clear that the cotton chambray I’d been sold definitely didn’t have much cotton in it. The green colour remained, even when I tried to go navy blue. And in the end, I sent the jumpsuit to the charity shop.

Recently Zadies have been popping up on my IG feed again, and I remembered how comfy it had been to wear. I found a couple of lengths of fabric in the stash and put it to the Instagram vote: should I make it up in a floral viscose or in a star print African Wax Print?

Stars won. Which was handy because I was leaning that way myself, wax print being an easier sew than viscose.

As I remembered, this is an easy pattern to sew up with enough little details to keep it entertaining. It probably took me 3 hours from start to finish which is pretty good going.

I was a little concerned that the wax print might have too much body to it, but no! It is fabulous! It’s light, it’s breezy and it’s incredibly comfortable to wear, without being so lightweight you worry about sitting down 😳. The wrap fastening means it is always going to fit (handy for that lockdown waistline!) and there’s some suitably sizeable pockets.

I’m so glad I picked this up as an easy sew, it was just what I needed and, having worn it all day (or at least, since I finished sewing in my pj’s around lunchtime!) it’s perfect for a sunny day.

I know I’m not supposed to be wearing repeats during Me Made May, but there might have to be some exceptions!
