Sew Up North is back!

So yes, it’s possible I’ve lost my mind, but Sew Up North is returning!

For those who are new to these parts, Sew Up North is a sewing social event which takes place in Leeds City Centre. Started in 2016 in frustration at the perception that all sewing events took place Down South, its aim is to get sewists together in real life (rather than just virtually) and chat, shop, drink tea (or other beverages!), swap fabric and patterns, and raise money for charity through a raffle whilst we’re at it.

The previous three events were organised very much as a partnership between myself and my wonderful friend, Sally. Sadly, Sally has not had the best time with her health this year and so has reluctantly decided that she can’t take it on this time. However, I have her blessing to carry on and so I’ve decided to be brave and organise it solo (gulp!)

The date to pencil into your diary is Saturday, October 26th 2019. The day will follow much the same format as previously; we will meet up mid morning, hit the fabric shops of Leeds city centre, and then meet up again for the fabric and pattern swap and charity raffle. Once again, Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen have been kind enough to provide a venue for the event and this time around, we will be able to both start and finish our day there. This means that those wishing to destash larger amounts of fabric and patterns will be able to ditch them before hitting the shops (this may or may not be a good thing!!)

Because the venue has limitations on the number of people for health and safety reasons, the event will once again be ticketed. I will announce here and on Instagram when the tickets will be available, but sadly I have to stress that if you don’t have a ticket, you will be unable to attend. I cannot go over the numbers specified by the venue.

Apologies for being blunt, but there were a couple of gate crashers last year, at least one of whom had been told in advance that you couldn’t come without a ticket, so I have to make myself clear. I’ve personally paid a deposit for the space and if we don’t stick to their requirements, I won’t get it back.

There are already several sponsors lined up for the raffle, so I’m hoping that we will once again be able to raise lots of cash for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Let’s see whether we can beat last year’s £1,000?

That’s all the info I have for now; keep your eyes open for ticket details in the next few days!

Hope to see you there!

  1. Hi Becca
Well done for going ahead but please don’t think you have to go it alone! I’ll gladly help in any way I can and I’m sure there’s lots of others who would too. Maybe you could allocate jobs if there’s a few of us? Just let me know I’m happy to do what I can!

      1. If I do end up coming, I’d also be happy to lend a hand on the day, especially since I’m not that keen on fabric shopping, I could stay behind and sort through the swap stuff.

  4. Hi Becca, I would really love to come up for the day. With so much advance warning, I might be able to swing some cheaper train tickets. I can’t wait to destash, I have insane amounts of patterns that are just screaming for a new loving home! Well done for taking it on. If I were closer, I’d love to give you a hand (I love me a bit of event organising :))
