Golden Givre

Hi there!

How’s your December going? Are you feeling festive, brimming with mulled wine and mince pies? Or do you, perchance, have primary school age children and are therefore drowning under the requirement to send party food, nativity costumes, cards, gifts, christmas jumpers and god only knows what else for each child on different days?

Guess which category I’m in?

But we’ve one more week to get through, the eldest child had a very successful lead role in the Key Stage One nativity today, there are high hopes that the youngest child will make it through the Foundation nativity without crying tomorrow, so all things considered, it could be going worse.

If you are in headless chicken category number two, I may have found a great Christmas party dress for you.  My latest Minerva Crafts Blogger Network post is all about how I hacked the slightly casual looking Deer and Doe Givre dress into a body con shiny velvet party frock, made up in under 2 hours (and I promise it looks better than it sounds……) It could well be the frock for you if you like a little stretch to allow space for Christmas dinner.

Deer and Doe "Givre" dress

Head on over there now to see all the details and let me know what you think (it’s a VERY different silhouette for me so the jury’s still out a little); I will be desperately writing the rest of the Christmas cards and attempting the find the address book…….

Details:

Pattern: Deer & Doe Givre

My measurements: bust 35″: waist  31″: hip 41″

Size cut: 40 grading to 42 for waist and hips

Adjustments made: hacked the separate bodice and sleeve pieces into single bodice and sleeve pieces, removing the chest seam (makes more sense if you look at the line drawings!)

Fabric: Stretch velvet jacquard from Minerva Craft

Future adjustments: No, unless I give myself a smidge more bum room!

Make again: I think so.  I’m curious to make a version that’s colour blocked, as the pattern intends, and I’d also definitely like to make a top version
