Hello!
It has dawned on me that it’s now a year since I started carving out my own little corner of the Blogosphere here at Red W Sews. I should really be writing a post about that, but it may have to wait for quieter times!
For today, just in case anyone has missed it, I’m going to do a little plug for a sewing meeting up I’m organising with Sally of Sew Sweet by Sally. Yep, that’s right, I’ve gone from lurking behind my iPhone screen to actually arranging to meet real life people. In real life. Really!
Anyway, you can tell the shock is getting to me! I posted on Instagram about maybe going to Sew Brum (which I am now doing, so excited!) and got into a bit of a discussion with a few other IGers about why all nice sewing things seem to be waaaay Down South from us.
Sally made an off the cuff comment about how we should organise one ourselves. And so I said we should!
And lo, Sew Up North was born!
The plan is to meet up in Leeds on November 5th at between 10 and 10:30 in Costa Coffee on Briggate (near House of Fraser, Marks and Spencers and Debenhams). We will then move on in search of enriching our fabric collections in, amongst others, the covered market and potentially the brand new, shiny John Lewis store which should by then have opened in the new shopping centre. I’m told it’s to be the biggest outside London, which will hopefully mean a large haberdashery area.
A girl can dream!
We can then head off to find somewhere for lunch, chat, fabric appreciation in general… Depending on how many people are interested, I may look to book a space somewhere, so if you’re thinking of coming, please do let us know!
We really hope some of you can make it, there’s been some interest already on Instagram and Facebook. I will post a more detailed plan nearer the time, but in the meantime, here’s to expanding the appreciation of sewing above Watford Gap!
(although obviously, I will continue to trek all over the shop in the interest of sewing!)
Hope to see some of you there

It sound great fun but I live miles and hours away. I’m sure it will be fab, I’m yet to go to a meet up as they’re always a big distance away but hopefully I will make it one day until then I’m behind my iPhone/pad too 🙂
