Me Made May part 1

Hello! How are things with you? Going well? And have you been taking part in Me Made May

If you haven’t heard of it, I’d be surprised, but it’s a month long challenge organised by Zoe of ‘So, Zo…’ Blog. You set your own challenge but the basic idea is to get you wearing your me mades more, with a side bonus of the community aspect if you decide to post photos on Instagram or another social media channel.

I enjoyed taking part last year, so I signed up much earlier than last year. I pledged to wear me mades 6 days a week.

So how’s it going? Surprisingly well despite an initial wobble! Here are my outfits for the first half of the month.

A couple of sweatshirts to start things off, followed by birthday pyjamas

Emery dress in Fox and the Houndstooth
New Look 6217 in off white faux silk and Seamwork Brooklyn in blue polyester
School run mum in Grainline Morris and TATB Agnes
My new By Hand London Anna dress
Sewaholic Belcarra

This top illustrates my main problem and learning point from Me Made May: I’ve lost a lot more weight than I thought and whilst some of last year’s makes are fine (depending on style), a lot are unwearable. Case in point:

So I suddenly went from hoping for warm weather to be able to access last year’s clothes to hoping it stayed cool long enough for me to sew more things. FAST!

unblogged Deer and Doe Melilot
Tilly and the Buttons Orla top
Grainline Moss with RTW trousers and top

I also learned that, unless I’m organised in a morning, selfies require the classy background of the loos at work!

A weekend of very mixed temperatures in the Lake District made the Agnes top the go to plus various scarves for warmth!

I’ve realised that I’m short on separates. I feel really good in clothes I made myself, to the point where shopping for new ready to wear isn’t that exciting any more (HUGE change!) but I’m starting to struggle.  And I really need to adjust or replace last Summer’s clothes in a hurry!

With that in mind I will be working through my fabric stash pairing up patterns and fabrics: The Foldline helpfully shared my projects in Instagram as I’d upload so many! I only wish it were the full extent of my stash but it’s not 😳. Right now I have a New Look 6217 top cut out and ready to go which is hopefully one evening’s sewing and job done!

Sometimes you need to hammer out a few quick projects to fill wardrobe gaps, am I right?

Here’s to the second half of May!

  1. Your doing really well. May is such a strange month weather wise and this year especially weird. Well done on the weight loss just not helpful for clothes. I too struggle for matching separates and need more and certainly more colourful for work K xXx

    1. Strangely I found that I felt smartest and got most compliments on the plain white top with plain blue skirt: I need to buy less colourful fabric I think (when I’m allowed to buy fabric again, which won’t be for a while!!)x

  2. You did look SO smart in the white blouse and blue skirt but you look lovely in everything you’ve worn this month. I’m going to have to rush out some tops pretty smartish as there is a definite gap in my wardrobe. You really have lost lots of weight – hope you can alter the floral dress, it’s a lovely fabric. x
